Announcing Collective Discussions (2024 Seminar Series)

The Collective: Women in Legal Philosophy is proud to introduce Collective Discussions, a regular seminar series for members by members. Each seminar will feature a member’s work-in-progress, which we will discuss as a group with the aim of improving and supporting that member’s work.

Our first group of presenters are legal philosophers who work across a range of positions. All seminars start at 12noon EST and will take place on Zoom. Both the Zoom link and paper will be circulated in advance of the Discussion to our mailing list.

On the 19th of January, we will be discussing, ‘Civil Disobedience and the Climate Necessity Defence’ by Professor Kimberley Brownlee. Professor Brownlee holds a Canada Research Chair in Ethics and Political & Social Philosophy at the University of British Columbia.

On the 1st of March, we will be discussing Filipa Paes’ paper ‘Apportioning Legal Responsibility.’ Miss Paes is a DPhil student at the University of Oxford working under the supervision of Professor Timothy Endicott.

On the 12th of April, we will discuss Dr Alma Diamonds’ ‘Public Legitimation.’ Dr Diamond is a Law and Philosophy Fellow and Lecturer in Law at the University of Chicago Law School.

We anticipate there being a call for abstracts for our second round of Discussions in Spring 2024.

We have attached a poster for the upcoming sessions and would be very grateful if you could share it with anyone who might find the seminars of interest. We would also ask you to continue on sharing The Collective widely as the more women we reach the merrier. We have recently joined Twitter, but you can also keep up to date via our website.
